Air Austral is the airline of the island of Reunion, an overseas department and region of France situated in the south-western part of the Indian Ocean. Its major market is mainland France, but it flies also to a number of destinations in neighbouring islands, south-eastern Africa, plus (pre-Covid) Chennai in India, Bangkok in Thailand and Guangzhou in China. Its Reunion-Paris CDG is the longest non-stop domestic flight in the world, considering distance covered. Air Austral is one of few airlines in the world (the others being Air Astana and Air New Zealand) to offer the possibility for two adults or one adult and two child to reserve an Extra-Couchette seat, meaning that a row of three seats in Economy Class is converted into a bed during night flights (Photo Wikimedia Commons / Ken Fielding)
