Formed after the collapse of the USSR to replace the Azerbaijani branch of Aeroflot, AZAL has its hub at Baku Heydar Aliyev International airport (GYD), from where it flies to some 50 destinations in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America. It is one of the few airlines in the world still deploying the 4-engined Airbus A340-500. To its high-end passengers it offers a VIP Club service, where passengers seat in the Business cabin but are entitled to a series of upper scale services including a personal assistant at the airport, increased checked and carry-on baggage allowance, upgraded meals and amenity kits. The airlines also operate a number of VIP-configured aircraft on behalf of the Country president and government. Its dark blue livery is widely judged one of the most attractive in commercial aviation (Photo Wikimedia Commons / Mateb Ali)
