Lufthansa halves its A380 fleet: only 7 aircraft will survive the pandemic

News

May 23, 2020 / Lufthansa (LH) confirmed that only half of its A380 fleet will fly again once the Coronavirus pandemic will be over. And all seven “surviving” aircraft will be based at the airline’s secondary hub in Munich (MUC). From the airline’s point of view, a distribution of the fleet to two locations (MUC and its main base in Frankfurt) is no longer viable, “logistically and economically”. A Lufthansa spokeperson confirmed that “after considering various criteria and against the background of making Lufthansa competitive in the long term, the company decided that in future the A380 should only be used from Munich”.
